Hello and Happy New Year to All

“The extraordinary beauty of the snow”, Orhan Pamuk

While it’s hotting up here in Melbourne, the weather in Istanbul has been hovering at around 4 degrees each day this week.  Istanbullites were thrilled to see snow settle on the ramshackle rooftops of old Pera.

2011 was a great year for Portakal Turkey Tours, with 23 guests exploring Turkey with us over three tours. The weather was wonderful, the food delicious and the locals as friendly and welcoming as ever.

2012 will see two tours departing Istanbul in September, and a brand spanking new website! I’d love your feedback!

New “Tastes of Turkey” Tour in 2012

Portakal’s classic 21 day itinerary takes on a culinary flavour with exclusive cooking classes, market visits and indulgent banquets added.

Learn to cook exotic meze, rich, flaky baklava and intricate vine leaf dolma. Local experts will lead us through bustling markets to unlock the secrets of spices, sauces and everyday staples of a modern Turkish kitchen.

We’ll dine not only at top-notch restaurants around Turkey, but will also veer off the path to the backstreets to discover some of Turkey’s finest local eateries and celebrated street stalls.

Please visit the “Tastes of Turkey” page for the detailed itinerary, and contact Rosie for further information.

Colours of Turkey Tour

The classic Colours of Turkey Tour, departing September 2, is almost full, and promises to be a great tour. A 21 day itinerary encompassing ancient sites, natural wonders and the sparkling Med, this is a tour which has it all.

Stay tuned for news on an upcoming Turkish extravaganza in Melbourne, keep checking the website for details on this exciting event!

I wish everyone a happy and prosperous year ahead, and looking forward to showing many more people the Turkey I know and love.

Rosie.
